They Give Great Service

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

If anyone would like information about which hydro store I visit, it is the one at http://www.gchydro.com/Contact_Venice.asp. Their service has been more than I could ever ask for, and I feel like I am learning something from them. It is so nice when a store cares so much about their customers. I feel more confident in my hydroponic endeavors more than ever, and I am quite glad that I am able to do so. I know that some people should truly enjoy such things. I know that I probably could never find closer place with a better service, and I am thoroughly enjoying this. I know that tips and guidance are such great complements to the services that I get from them. That is why I will continue to shop there. I feel like if I stick with them, I will eventually master hydroponics and all things related to the hobby.

What is Needed to Get Started with Herb Gardening

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

Herb gardening for beginners can be daunting, especially since many beginners are daunted by the vast array of choices available. Although herbs are the easiest plants to grow for beginners, it does not mean they don’t need to know anything about the herbs they are growing.

At the beginning, you should start small and only progress to bigger things once you get the hang of it. Also, you should start with herbs that can be grown indoors, so that you don’t have to break into a sweat, out in the sun; some herbs can be grown indoors.

Get a suitable pot and some well drained soil, and of course a bag of seeds. A spade or trowel should also be at hand. The best location for growing herbs indoors is on a window sill. With good soil and regular watering, those herb seeds should soon sprout. After that, maintaining the herbs as they grow is what you need to be concerned with, and eventually, you’ll be rewarded with a good harvest.

Basic Tips on Garden Decking Maintenance

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

In these modern times, almost anything and everything can be mass produced and ready to order. Say for instance, if you want to have a pop up gazebo in your garden, you can easily purchase an entire kit complete with instructions that will guide you on how to assemble it. If you are thinking of garden decking, you can get it in the very same way. This is an attractive way to get things done easily especially if you have a very busy schedule. You shouldn’t overlook the fact though that every part of your home, including your garden and everything in it, requires proper maintenance to preserve its original beauty.

Approximately 90% or these ready-to-assemble decking sold in the market is made out of wood. The material is of course one major consideration if you have maintenance as part of your plan. Wood, despite its natural beauty and elegance, can easily get worn out by natural elements and by constant use or other external causes. You would have to take into consideration how to maintain and preserve the wooden panels of your decks.

Start with the maintenance at the very base. First things first, you have to make sure that the base boards on which the deck is built should be strong and sturdy enough to support all that weight, especially if you are considering elevating your garden decking. Another thing to consider will be whether the area in which you plan to place your decking is properly landscaped. This is another major consideration because most easy to assemble garden decks are designed for flat surfaces. You would also want to ensure that water does not pool around your deck so that you can definitely keep the base strong. In most cases, you would need a drainage designed around your deck so that water is drawn away from it.

The Spiritual Side of Butterfly Gardens

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

There are a lot of reasons why many of us create live butterfly gardens. Some of us like the challenge of attracting lots and lots of live butterflies. Some of us appreciate the opportunity to create gardens that are both beautiful and educational.

And some of us are attracted to the more spiritual side of butterfly gardening.

A distinction needs to be drawn between religious and spirituality here. Let’s say that spirituality – at least in this context – means anything that calls our attention away from the mundane and towards what is divine. This is a mystery, of course. But the beauty of the garden, the way the light changes as it plays across it, and the fluttery effect of so many brilliant butterflies . . . all of this moves us in ways that, if we let it, can resemble a prayer.

The butterfly garden can restore us – can lift our spirits and remind us of the proper role of beauty and spirit in our lives. And that’s a pretty good reason to build one, isn’t it?

Growing Your Own Vegetables

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Everyone now is trying to eat healthier, and buying organic, locally grown produce is part of that movement. This can get pricey, though, as it actually costs more to eat healthy than it does to eat processed food. There is a solution, though, and that’s to get your produce grown very locally in your own backyard. Many folks these days are doing their own vegetable gardening.

Think about the kinds of vegetables you and your family enjoy. There’s no use growing things that you don’t really like to either eat raw or cook. Then you need to find a sunny plot for your garden. If it’s too shady, you won’t get the growth you want. After you ready the soil, it’s time to go out and choose your vegetable seeds. The little packets always look so inviting with their colorful pictures of peas, carrrots, tomatoes, and green peppers. You might also want to add some herbs like basil and dill.

Plant your vegetable seeds in the spring and by summer you should start to see lush growth and your own fresh produce ready for the picking right outside your door.

Decorative Dryed Material

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

Fall months with Christmas ahead bring to mind home decorations. Pine cones are an essential for making wreaths, or charm charm strings, so do not run them over with the electric lawn mower. The hard cones are easily lacquered: The tiny ones are just the thing for corsages or to work in clusters in wreaths. Use fine wire to hold them together. They may be used with ribbon when making up or tying fancy boxes. The cones of the Blue Spruce are soft and natural looking and do not need any artifice to be very decorative.

Strawberry Popcorn is a cute little ear shape like a strawberry, and the same color. The husks may be dyed green to give a naturalistic note and the same seeds may be planted in the garden next Spring. It is not common, but easily grown.

Too rich a soil results in too large ears, the idea being to keep them dwarfed.

Devils claws make very realistic birds or simply may be used as an interesting item for a collection of nature’s work. They are odd and show us what unique containers plants sometimes have for their seeds. They have a unique way of dropping their seeds, a few at a time. Also the hidden inner compartment which is good for a second years’ planting when left to nature’s whims.

Many seeds have their ingenious ways of holding back part of their seed, until the first supply is exhausted. In this way the plant is assured of survival.

The magnolia leaves shade from greenish brown to dark brown and the whole is placed on a slab of polished walnut wood.

The Madonna’s robe is Beige, and the cherubs are a creamy white. Making a complete picture in tones of tan and brown, and cream.

A Word About My Memories

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

The gentle, tinkling sound relaxes me as a soft breeze jingles the dangling members of an unseen orchestra together in an unwritten song. As a small child, the red and green birds clanged together outside of Grandma’s kitchen window as she hummed about the kitchen making cookies or pies, or whatever the occasion required. The low whistle of the hollow, wooden cylinders that hung on Aunt Mary’s porch will forever be etched in my memory as a part of the birthday chorus as we ate cake and ice cream on the porch during those hot May days. The blue butterflies and flowers that caught the door of my classroom announced the entrance of another friend as we celebrated another day of learning together. Wind chimes are music when there is none. They are the song when nothing else seems to fit the occasion.

They are the tune of my memories. They are sad, happy, and calming. As an old woman, I now look around my own home and see that the memories of the wind chimes are still here. My grandmother’s birds now hang from my own kitchen window and I often hum along with it as I bake with my own grandson. Aunt Mary’s wooden chimes now adorn my front porch and sing to me on hot May days. Only the blue butterflies of my classroom are no longer in my possession, but are etched in my memory like a song in the breeze.
